Tactical plan & practical info 2026

Most of central Rouen is pedestrianised for the evening. Arrive before 7 pm to avoid the crowd on main routes and to drop off your locker at a calm time.

Pedestrian perimeter — streets closed from 7 pm

Rue Jeanne d'Arc (between rue Jean Lecanuet and quai de la Bourse), place du Général de Gaulle, rue de Crosne, rue de Fontenelle, rue Saint-Lô and connecting streets in the historic centre are closed to traffic from 7 pm to 2 am (residents allowed before concerts start). Bonus: everything is walkable from Lock My Bag.

    Official hours

Main stage (Town Hall): kicks off at 8 pm. First acoustic stages open from 5-6 pm in the centre. Peak time: 9 pm to 1 am. Bar closure: 2 am (municipal order). Lock My Bag storage: 24/7 keypad access, so you collect at 2 am, 3 am or the next day.

    Night transport (Astuce network)

The Astuce network adds extra departures on Metro, TEOR (T1, T2, T3), Fast and line 6. Last metros from Théâtre des Arts towards Technopôle: 1:04 am and 1:20 am. Towards Georges-Braque: 1:12 am and 1:30 am. Rouen-Rive-Droite station stays walkable (9 min from Lock My Bag).

Safety, first aid & alcohol rules

Reinforced municipal police across the centre. Two Red Cross first-aid posts: Place Foch and Place de la Calende, open 7 pm to 2 am. Alcohol consumption on public roads is banned across Seine-Maritime from noon (21 June) to 10 am the next day (prefectural order). Better leave your valuables at Lock My Bag than carrying them around.

Frequently asked questions — Fête de la Musique in Rouen

Can I pick up my bags after midnight on Fête de la Musique night?

Yes, absolutely. The storage is accessible 24/7 via the keypad code (emailed when you book). You can pick up at 1 am, 2 am or 3 am with no extra charge.

How much does storage cost for the duration of Fête de la Musique?

€12.50 for an L locker (cabin bag or backpack) or €20 for an XL (large suitcase) — the 24h rate covers the whole evening and night. Arriving Saturday and leaving Monday? The 48h rate is even better value (€22 for the L).

Do I need to book in advance for Fête de la Musique?

Strongly recommended. Fête de la Musique is one of our busiest nights of the year. Booking ahead guarantees you a locker (size of your choice), express drop-off with no queue, and the same price as walk-in.

Can I store my folding bike during the concerts?

Yes if your folding bike fits in the XL locker (39 × 85 × 120 cm). Perfect for festival-goers riding in from the train station or a nearby neighbourhood. Regular non-folding bikes aren't accepted due to space.

Where exactly is the storage in relation to the stages?

11 rue Louis Ricard, in the historic heart of Rouen. Walking times from storage to main festival spots: Town Hall 3 min · Halle aux Toiles 8 min · Cathedral 7 min · Place du Vieux-Marché 12 min · Seine quays 14 min. Perfectly placed to hop between stages all night.

Review of 2024-2025 editions — what worked, what didn't

To help you plan your 2026 evening, an honest review of the past two editions based on the city's official communications and visitor feedback.

    ✓ What worked

Successful pedestrian zone: the entire historic heart (rue Jeanne d'Arc, place du Général de Gaulle, rue de Crosne, rue de Fontenelle, rue Saint-Lô) goes car-free from 7 pm to 2 am. Walking between stages is stress-free.

    ✕ What didn't

Parking is tricky: city-centre underground car parks fill up fast. If driving in, plan a peripheral car park (Saint-Sever, Saint-Marc) and finish on foot or by metro.

    ✓ What worked

Reinforced Astuce network: extra Metro/TEOR/Fast departures, last metros around 1:30 am. Very effective for getting home after the concerts without taxi worries.

    ✕ What didn't

Vieux-Marché overload at peak: between 9 and 11 pm, Place du Vieux-Marché gets very dense. Not ideal with toddlers — prefer Saint-Maclou or the Seine quays, more airy and equally musical.

    ✓ What worked

Real musical diversity: jazz on the Cathedral square, brass bands in side streets, electro on the quays, rock at Saint-Maclou, classical at Town Hall. You switch worlds in a 5-minute walk.

    ✕ What didn't

Program published late: the detailed stage-by-stage agenda is usually only available 2-4 weeks before the event. Frustrating for advance planning. Recommendation: check visiterouen.com / rouen.fr in early June for the up-to-date list.

    ✓ What worked

Well-placed first-aid posts: Red Cross at Place Foch and Place de la Calende (7 pm to 2 am). Reinforced municipal police. Overall good safety feeling.

    ✕ What didn't

Public-road alcohol ban (Seine-Maritime prefectural order, in force for several years): drinking happens on terraces or in bars only. Good news: bar density is high across the pedestrian perimeter.
